Twelve Days of Editing: Day 1 - Look Again

During the first twelve days of December Ill be posting twelve ways to self-edit.

Today's Tip: Look Again

Find ways to look at your book differently. Change the font, font size, change device (such as from desktop to ereader), print your MS, or have it bound at a copy shop. This can often help you see your book with new eyes and you'll catch those things that you missed before. If you can, listen to it being read aloud by either yourself or a loved one. This can help you identify places where readers get tripped up (can you rephrase?), bored (chop that), excited (do more of that), and emotional (are they happy or sad when they're supposed to be?).
